Snorkeling under the Mangroves
This adventure took place in Mexico last December (2018), more specifically in Playa del Carmen at the Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. This is indeed a resort that I recommend to everyone, especially families. All the photos of this post were taken on site within the resort. Snorkeling in the mangrove river was one of the many activities offered.
Mangrove River
First surprise it is fresh water! So close to the ocean, I was expecting salt water. Swimming along the narrow river is a nice journey in itself, but there was less to see than I expected. I was imagining a world teeming with life under the roots. There are still a few turtles and some black / dark gray fishes (Batman style). I swam face to face with a turtle!

Cenote and Jungle Exploration
The trails allow exploration of the “jungle” on site. There are even some Mayan ruins.

On the subject of swimming, I also bathed in a cenote. With the small fall on the side, the cries of birds and the monkeys, one has the impression of being miles away from civilization in the middle of an exotic jungle.

We had the chance to see a baby monkey hanging to his mother.

Here are some pictures of the local fauna and flora.

The coatis were probably the most amusing animals because they approached us in the hope that they would be given food. Failing to be fed by tourists, they are really ingenious at managing to enter trashcans…
