Got Bugs

Got Bugs

This time, it’s a book I found at the library that inspired me. Yes, in the DIY / craft section, I found this book that shows step by step the construction of wire bugs. I share with you the summary of my first creation.

Material and Plan

You will need:

  • Wire (24 gauge / 0.5mm)
  • Small pliers to fold and cut
  • Beads, branches, buttons, etc
  • Spoon (for the model below only)

I recommend you make a drawing of the bug you’ll invent and place the materials on the plan to make sure you have everything you need. You can also improvise as go if your creativity expresses itself better spontaneously.

Making the Bug

First, draw a plan of what your beetle will be like and cut the spoon. Cut 6 wires for the legs and fold them in the middle.

Wrap the wire around the spoon. You can make notches with tongs or a metal file to help the wire hold.

Wrap a few turns and put in the eyes. Wrap some more. After putting the legs in a star shape, wrap each side of the folded wires to the one that is next to it.

Last step is to fix the antennas. Put beads at the end of a wire and wrap a few turns around the beetle.
